I wish I had my camera on me Saturday when I spotted this near the St. Lawrence Market. A stick-shift R8 V10 was parked nearby across the street and a McLaren 650S arrived later.
Taken with my Motopotato G, its lacklustre camera is the biggest reason I want to upgrade my phone. Alternatively, maybe I should pick up a pancake lens for my camera and make a conscious effort to carry it around more often. Thoughts?

Crikey that’s a good-looking 911.

Hmmm. I thought you lived in Europe. Now I know.

I’m originally from Europe so you were somewhat right but yeah, I live near Toronto now.

I’d probably enjoy a classic 911 more than a R8 or 650S, especially when the 911 looks this good.
If you have a light camera, a pancake lens is probably not a bad idea. I got a 50mm fixed f/1.8 lens for my SLR but because of the sensor crop it’s not very practical. I should have bought a 35mm or something wider to get closer to the classic 50mm range used on regular film or full-frame SLRs.
Unless you’re getting really serious about taking photos or just really enjoy doing taking photos, it’s more practical to consider the camera included in the phone when you upgrade since you’ll always have that on you anyway.
As much as I like taking photos, the SLR was too much to lug around (even when it is only a Nikon D40) but now I have a Fuji X20 which is flexible enough to take great photos but small enough where it's not a chore to carry around.

I’ve got a Sony NEX-5R which is reasonably compact for an APS-C sensor mirrorless camera. With the kit 18-55mm lens it’s still too bulky to truly be pocketable though. A pancake lens would probably make it doable but I’m looking at $250+tax new as selection is limited. Kijiji might get me one for $150-$200 though so that’s a consideration.
I wouldn’t say I’m very serious about taking photos but I do enjoy taking them and good image quality.
The Moto G was a really good value for the money in terms of computing performance/specs, which is why I chose it, but the camera has become more of a priority since I’ve owned it. I will choose more based on Camera capability for my next phone.

I’ve never used one of those mirrorless cameras but a pancake 35mm if available would be perfect for impromptu photos. Phones are really expensive and if everything else about the phone is okay, I think the lens would be a good idea. The enjoyment of taking photos is lost to me when using a phone, but I always enjoy using a camera.
